I know you have to hate me after I say this- but promise you will hear me out...o.k. my confession is, I love Valentine's Day. I know it is terrible and most have filed v-day along with New Year's as an anti-climatic non-holiday holiday that favors the 'coupled' folk and is filled with gross overspending on not-so-great fancy-sounding dinners and cheesy gifts (pink plush gorilla with a heart that plays music- definitely worth that $40) . But alas, I have so many fond memories from childhood that I can't seem to shake... getting an afternoon away from school work to decorate an oversized manilla envelope with stickers and giving out cards to all my friends - it was a pretty sweet deal. I still hold strong to my mantra that it is a day to celebrate all kinds of love not just the bad cologne and victoria secret's padded bra kind. I am making a suggestion that we rethink v-day and use it to say loving words to all the people we care about in our lives... And perhaps an afternoon off work to do arts and crafts wouldn't be so bad either.
